Welcome to The Mobile County Animal Shelter

Mobile County Animal Shelter Advisory Board Meeting Notice

The Mobile County Animal Shelter is a component of the Mobile County Animal Control Department (MCAC). MCAC operates in compliance with state and local animal control laws and the guidelines of the Humane Society of the United States to balance the health, safety and welfare of people and animals within the unincorporated areas of Mobile County and the municipalities it serves by:

  • Protecting the rights of citizens from the dangers and nuisances associated with stray, sick, injured, and abandoned domestic animals.
  • Ensuring the legal protection of domestic animals from abuse and neglect.
  • Promoting and enforcing responsible pet ownership.
  • Educating the public through presentations and public relations programs.
  • Working with animal welfare organizations in the placement of animals unable to be placed by the Department
  • Providing animals in our care with a clean, safe environment; donated veterinarian care when possible; and humane euthanization for those animals that are not reclaimed, adopted or rescued.

The Mobile County Animal Shelter (MCAS) consistently strives to find homes for healthy animals, but the number of abandoned animals in Mobile County continues to far exceed the number of available homes. MCAS staff diligently works to increase community awareness of the importance of spaying/neutering pets; provides alternative resources for owner surrenders; and promotes the adoption of shelter animals through social media.
